A trip to « Les Baux-de-Provence »

Ma Villa en Provence’s team has found just for you the best activities and places to enjoy during your holidays in Provence. Let’s discover this amazing perched village!

What to do in Baux-de-Provence?

Les Carrières de Lumières

If you are following us since the beginning, you know our attachment for this lovely museum. We talked about it here and there. 100% magic, this spectacular place hosts dynamics exhibitions, sounds and lights show. The subjects of the shows are changing with each season. A must to enjoy with the whole family!

Les Baux-de-Provence’s Castle

Impossible to visit les Baux-de-Provence without discovering the castle! Even if it is in ruins, the audio-guide, which is given at the entry and the visuals, allow us to have an inside of what was life in the “middle Ages”. Built during the 11th century, on a 7 hectares site, you’ll need about one hour and a half to visit this semi-troglodyte castle. Put on your trainers as the ground is rugged! The bonus on the visit: an amazing view of the village and the Alpilles’ massif.

CastelaS Moulin

A taste of olive oil … Leave the village centre and plunge in the heart of the Provençal gastronomy, with the star ingredient: The olive oil. The Moulin is a producer of the famous “Baux de Provence-oil” managing 45 hectares of land since 1997. During the visit, you will be lead by an enthusiasm team, which will share their passion and their expertise. The tour ends with a degustation of the traditional products from the Castelas’ Moulin.

Where to eat in Les Baux-de-Provence

In our article about the best terraces, we already talked about the veggie bar-restaurant “Les Baux Jus”. Delicious fresh fruits and products! https://mavillaenprovence.com/route-reouverture-terrasses-provence/

In a different style, we recommend the gastronomic restaurant “L’Oustau de Baumanière”. We highlighted the chef, Glenn Viel last year when he received his Chef’s Price of the year. A well-disserved award for the new and eco-responsible gastronomy. https://mavillaenprovence.com/chef-annee-baux-de-provence/

How to get to Les Baux-de-Provence?

Only at 90km from Marseille and 35km from Avignon, “Les Baux-de-Provence” is classified as one of France’s most beautiful villages. From its promontory, we have got a panoramic view on the Alpilles massif. Place with a huge history, the village and its paved street, host each year millions of tourists.

You can take the bus or drive through the village (from Avignon or Saint-Rémy-de-Provence with “Zou” https://zou.maregionsud.fr/.

There are several public car parks accessible to the tourists. However, be aware that there will be a parking fee to pay.

Provence is famous for its picturesque villages. In the heart of the Alpilles, if you enjoyed the Baux-de-Provence’s visit we recommend also a visit of Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, Eygalières or Maussane-les-Alpilles.

If you are wanted to stay in the Alpills region, we would be delighted to welcome you in one of our villa with private pool for your stay.
